1. Don't be in a hurry to negotiate salary at interview
Agreed that one of the reasons why many of us change jobs is to get a good salary hike. Whilst both you and the prospective employer might be keen to discuss salary at interview, don't bring it up initially.
If you're asked what salary you expect simply state "The details can be worked out at a later stage".

Dynamics of the situation: If you are the only candidate who has got the through the selection process then you have better leverage compared to a situation where the prospective employer has options available.

Market Rates: Salaries being offered in the market for similar jobs in that industry
Your aim should be to reach mutually agreeable terms and have a “win-win” situation.

4. Don’t be greedy
If you decide to join, the relationship with your new employers shall be ongoing. Therefore, focus on the overall package and not on just winning the negotiations.
Even if you have more leverage, asking for an unreasonable package may leave a not very favorable impression on the other side even if you win.
