Recession has been affecting companies all over the world. Job cuts have become widespread, especially the IT industry which stands in the line of impact of the US economy meltdown. In such a scenario, it is normal to experience job-related stress at some point or the other.

The recent times have seen recession taking a toll on the Indian economy, especially for industries like IT and ITes whose work is directly affected by the US economic meltdown. Layoffs and the fear of job loss has started affecting employees across all industries.

Senior executives, usually in their early 40s, have been observed to have different ideas on this subject.
Some are very radical e.g. “…now I must make one change every year, if I have to become MD of company or reach top earning bracket”

Simply letting your management know that you are laving the job on a particular date is never a recommended way to resign. It's always wise to not burn bridges. You never know when you will need your past employers for a reference.

1. Don't be in a hurry to negotiate salary at interview

Agreed that one of the reasons why many of us change jobs is to get a good salary hike. Whilst both you and the prospective employer might be keen to discuss salary at interview, don't bring it up initially.
